Understanding Your Coverage Under The Alberta New Home Warranty Program

June 17, 2016 | Peter-John Woolf

With over 40-year experience, The Alberta New Home Warranty Program is Alberta's most experienced and trusted new home warranty provider. Their stringent membership requirements mean that they only cover elite home builders in the industry.

Broadview Homes is a proud member of The Alberta New Home Warranty Program. And so, every new home that we build is covered by the New Home Warranty Program. We like the protection it offers our customers, and the secure feeling that they enjoy knowing their new home is built to a high quality and is guaranteed to last.

The warranty coverage provided by The Alberta New Home Warranty Program for new homes in Alberta is based on how many years specific components are covered for. When it is broken-down into the 1-2-5-10 program, it looks like this:

1 – Defects in Labour – Materials are covered for one year. It includes items like flooring, trim and fixtures.

2 – Distribution systems, like heating, electrical and plumbing, are covered for two years.

5 – The building envelope which refers to the exterior of home and includes wall framing, cladding, roof and window installation. The standard coverage is for five years - although Broadview Homes pays for the optional Extended Building Envelope Warranty for all its customers. This extends the warranty coverage from 5 years to 7 years to provide added peace of mind.

10 – Structural elements are materials and labour which result in the failure of load-bearing parts or cause structural damage in your home. Since this is the most important part of your home, they're covered for a full 10 years from the date in your warranty.
