In this series, we covered how Alberta’s new energy-efficiency codes will benefit homeowners with increased comfort, energy savings, clean internal air, reduced moisture issues and higher resale value. Now, we are turning our focus to how everyone will benefit from these eco-friendly new home changes.

An energy-efficient home is more environmentally friendly, which is good for the planet. Green homes produce fewer greenhouse gasses, and the reduction in energy usage conserves energy.

One house may seem like it won’t make much of an impact. However, buildings in Alberta put out 19 megatons of greenhouse gases in 2014 — about seven percent of Alberta’s total, said Municipal Affairs Minister Danielle Larivee. Since the changes to the Alberta’s building code affect all buildings, and not just single-family homes, the cumulative results from these changes will not only benefit the province, but also have a positive contribution towards Canada’s climate change program.

Overall, all Albertans will benefit from these changes – even if they don’t live in one of the new energy-efficient homes.
